Emotional Depletion · Online, in English

You blow up over small things, and can't explain why

It was never really about the dish left in the sink, or the text your partner answered too slowly. It's every small frustration you swallowed this week — at work, on the phone with family, in a language you had to keep translating — finally spilling over. You weren't overreacting. You were already full.

The tank was already full

The reaction wasn't out of proportion. It was the last drop in a tank that had no room left.

Every time something should have gone one way and went another — a comment brushed off, a plan that got changed on you again, a "that's just how it is" you had to swallow — it's a drop added to an emotional tank that was already close to the top. On its own, none of it was enough to explain the blow-up. Added up over days, it is. For a lot of people living between two languages, there's less room to let any of it out along the way: fewer people who'd really get the frustration of a form that should have been simple, or a family call where you had to translate feelings you didn't have the energy to translate.

Therapy doesn't tell you to control yourself. It helps you see the drops before they add up, and question the "should" behind each one — so the tank stops filling in silence.

Three signals

Signs this might be what's happening to you

💥

You overreact

The reaction doesn't match what just happened. You know it, and you blame yourself for it. But it wasn't an overreaction — your tank was already full.

🪵

It all piles up

Day-to-day micro-frustrations that never really get processed. Each one is a drop in a tank that has nowhere left to go.

😔

The guilt comes after

After the blow-up comes the self-judgment. But self-control was never the problem — the accumulation was.

Who's with you

I'm Ricardo, and you won't have to sort this out alone

I'm a clinical psychologist with more than 15 years working with people whose reactions run bigger than the moment that triggered them, trained in systemic family therapy. I'm Colombian, based in Barranquilla, and I see clients online. But before any title, I'm someone who understands what it's like to hold two languages and two worlds at once — the small frustrations that pile up faster when you're doing that every day, and the guilt that comes right after you snap. Many of the people I work with in English think in Spanish first — they migrated, or grew up shuttling between countries, or learned early that being upset wasn't something you said out loud. You don't have to explain that part to me first.

A tank that's been filling for years is easier to empty with someone next to you. If this feels like the moment, let's take the first step together — at your pace, no pressure.

My approach

This is how I work with emotional depletion in therapy

I work from a systemic-relational approach: I won't tell you to "just control it." I look at every small "it should have been this way" that didn't happen — at work, at home, across borders — that's been dropping into the tank without you noticing.

📌

Naming the drops, not just the flood

We list the "shoulds" that didn't happen this week — five is usually enough to see the pattern. Then we take one and ask: where did I get the idea it had to be that way? What if it's a "could," not a "should"?

🌿

Emptying the tank before it's full

This isn't about suppressing what you feel. It's about finding real places to let the small frustrations out along the way, so they don't sit there waiting for the one that finally spills over.

👤

Getting your relationships back

The goal isn't to never react. It's for the people you love to stop catching the overflow of a tank that was never really about them.

How we start

A clear first step, no pressure

1

You book your assessment session

Message me on WhatsApp or leave your details in the form. We'll set up a first 60-minute video-call session, at a reduced rate (50% off).

2

We get to know your situation

In that first session I listen to your story, what usually sets you off, and what happens after — the guilt, the apologies, the relationships it strains. No rushed diagnoses, no jargon — just understanding, together, what you need.

3

We shape the process together

You decide with real information, not blindly. If it feels right for you, we agree on a process built around you. If not, I'll still point you toward what you need.

Every gap between how things should be and how they actually are is frustration you're adding to a tank that's already close to bursting.
