When The Right Words Still Don't Land · Online, in English
You've heard the right advice. You nodded. Nothing moved. Sometimes the phrase that actually helps isn't the most polished one — it's the one that sounds like the way you actually talk, in the language you think in when nobody's listening.
When the manual falls short
"Work on your self-esteem." "Set boundaries." "Practice self-compassion." You hear the right phrase, you agree with it, and still nothing shifts inside. That's not a failure of willpower — it's a mismatch of language. A sentence built for a general reader rarely fits the specific shape of your pain. For a lot of people who split their week between Spanish and English, there's an extra layer to that mismatch: the words handed to you to name what you feel arrive in a second language, one you learned later in life, for situations nobody rehearsed with you — bills, doctors, school forms, your own feelings, all in English before you'd finished sorting them out in Spanish first.
Therapy doesn't hand you more correct phrases. It helps you find your own words for what's happening — including the ones that mix both languages, the ones that would sound strange in a self-help book but land exactly where it hurts.
Who's with you
I'm a clinical psychologist with more than 15 years of clinical practice, trained in systemic family therapy. I'm Colombian, based in Barranquilla, and I see clients online, in English. Many of the people I work with think in Spanish first — they migrated, or grew up moving between two countries, or built their adult life in a language that came after the one they felt things in first. I'm not handing you lines from a manual. I adapt to the way you actually speak, direct when directness helps, plain when plain is what lands, so what we work through sounds like your life and not like a translated pamphlet.
Finding your own language for this is easier with someone next to you who's used to working across two of them. If this feels like the moment, let's take the first step together — at your pace, no pressure.

Systemic-Relational Approach
Not a manualized script
Ricardo is licensed as a psychologist in Colombia (Professional License 106127) and works with international clients in private practice. He does not prescribe medication. Rules on cross-border online therapy vary by country and by state, so it's worth checking what applies where you live — and this never replaces local emergency care.
Book a Session With MeMy approach
I work from a systemic-relational approach: I'm not here to hand you more advice, but to help build the language that actually fits your story, your relationships, and the specific weight you're carrying.
"Love yourself first." "Set that boundary." You hear the right phrase, you nod, and nothing happens. The message is true, but the language isn't yours — it was written for someone else's voice.
Someone who tells you things straight, without dressing them up, reaches you faster than someone who wraps everything in language that never quite lands.
When someone talks to you straight and with care, something loosens. Not because it stings — because it feels real. And real reaches places where "correct" kept bouncing off.
How we start
Message me on WhatsApp or leave your details in the form. We'll set up a first 60-minute video-call session, at a reduced rate (50% off).
In that first session I listen to your story, in whatever mix of English and Spanish it comes out. No rushed labels, no borrowed scripts — just understanding, together, what actually needs saying.
You decide with real information, not blindly. If it feels right for you, we agree on a process built around you. If not, I'll still point you toward what you need.
Before, things were pulling you under and you couldn't quite name why. Now you can name it — and naming it is what lets you choose.

Sometimes the phrases that don't land are the ones you say to yourself. If that inner voice sounds familiar, this is a related process I also walk with people through.
