Family Roles Therapy · Online, in English
Professional psychological support in English — from someone who thinks the way you do. A space to name the part you've been playing in your family, and find out what happens when you set it down, without translating your story first.
When it hurts more than it should
Something small — a comment, a missed call, a tone of voice — leaves you carrying it for days, and you don't fully understand why the reaction is so much bigger than the moment. That gap is often worth looking at. Maybe you're not only reacting as yourself. Maybe you're reacting from a role that was handed to you a long time ago — the parent to your own parent, the one who mediates every fight, the one who's never allowed to fail. Nobody sat you down and gave you that part. It got handed to you early, and it stayed on.
For a lot of people who live between Spanish and English, that role doesn't stay behind. It rides along on every call home — the one that leaves you drained in a way that doesn't match how long it lasted. Distance doesn't erase the role. It can make it louder.
Who's with you
I'm a clinical psychologist with more than 15 years working with families and the roles that form inside them, trained in systemic family therapy. I'm Colombian, based in Barranquilla, and I see clients online. Many of the people I work with in English think in Spanish first — that family phone call that leaves you drained often happens in Spanish, even on a day that ran entirely in English. You don't have to explain that part to me first.
Ricardo is licensed as a psychologist in Colombia (Professional License 106127) and works with international clients in private practice. He does not prescribe medication. Rules on cross-border online therapy vary by country and by state, so it's worth checking what applies where you live — and this never replaces local emergency care.
Naming a role is easier with someone next to you. If this feels like the moment, let's take the first step together — at your pace, no pressure.

Systemic-Relational Approach
Looks at the pattern, not just the person
My approach
I work from a systemic-relational approach: I don't start from "your family is like this." That doesn't explain why something small leaves you carrying it for days. We look instead at the role you were assigned, and what it's costing you to keep playing it.
We separate the part you've been playing — the parent to your own parent, the mediator, the one who never fails — from who you actually are. The role was assumed without you deciding it; naming it puts distance between the two.
One sentence does a lot of work: "In that family, I played the ___." Filling in that blank is often the first real move — once the role has a name, you can start deciding what to do with it.
For people living far from where they grew up, the role doesn't stay behind — it rides along on every video call. We work on what it would mean to answer that call without stepping back into the same part.
How we start
Message me on WhatsApp or leave your details in the form. We'll set up a first 60-minute video-call session, at a reduced rate (50% off).
In that first session I listen to your story, and to the role you've been playing in your family for as long as you can remember. No rushed diagnoses, no jargon — just understanding, together, what you need.
You decide with real information, not blindly. If it feels right for you, we agree on a process built around you. If not, I'll still point you toward what you need.
Every time it hurts more than it should with your mother or your brother, ask yourself: whose pain is this really — yours, or the role's?
