Latino Therapist · Online, in English

You've built a life in English. Let's talk about it in English too

Winter here is long, people are kind but rarely close, and your family is thousands of miles away. Somewhere along the way you started thinking in Spanish and living in English — at work, with your partner, in the school pickup line. Here you don't have to switch languages to be understood: sessions are in English, with someone who still knows exactly where you came from.

When the cold is emotional too

Getting to Canada wasn't just crossing a border. It was learning to live a winter that gets inside you too.

Nobody warned you about this: people here are polite to everyone, but real closeness takes years to build, and in the meantime you're carrying the homesickness, the guilt of having left, or the worry of not knowing if your Express Entry, your study permit, or your residency process will turn out the way you hoped. Winter stretches on for months, the sun disappears early, and that cold has a way of settling into your mood too. Underneath all of it, there's the quiet weight of knowing your parents are getting older far away, and that not even a long, expensive flight guarantees you'll get there in time.

On top of that, so much of your life now runs in English — your job, maybe your relationship, the small talk that fills your days — while the part of you that grieves and worries and remembers still thinks in Spanish first. A therapist who has never had to hold a life, and a family, thousands of miles from where it started, can't fully understand what you're carrying. Here you don't have to explain where you're from before we start, and you won't need to switch back to Spanish to be understood: we can do this fully in English.

Ricardo De Castro King — Clinical Psychologist

Who's with you

I'm Ricardo — a Colombian psychologist who sees you in English, and understands you in full

I'm a clinical psychologist with more than 15 years of experience and training in systemic family therapy. I'm based in Barranquilla, Colombia, and I see clients online — including Latinos in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and across Canada who've built their day-to-day life in English but still carry Spanish, and their culture, underneath it.

You won't have to explain what «una vuelta» means, or why you miss the sun from home when there's snow outside until April. I understand that because it's part of my own culture too — even though we'll work together in English. I bring the same warmth and clinical seriousness to this process that I give every patient.

Built for your reality

Therapy designed for Latinos in Canada, in English

This isn't generic therapy translated into English. It's a process built from the start for someone building a life on the other side of winter.

💬

Your culture, not just your second language

English is the language of the session, but I understand your culture because it's mine too. You won't have to explain the backstory, or feel like something got lost because you're not speaking Spanish.

🕑

Sessions built around your time zone in Canada

Toronto and Montreal share almost the same time as Colombia. If you're in Vancouver or on the Pacific coast, we work in blocks that fit your morning or midday. Your schedule isn't an obstacle.

📄

A receipt for your insurance or EAP

If you have private insurance or an employee assistance program (EAP) that covers mental health, I give you a detailed receipt for each session that you can submit yourself for reimbursement.

How we start

Your first session, no friction

1

You book your assessment session

Message me on WhatsApp or leave your details in the form, including your city and time zone in Canada. We'll set up a 60-minute video-call session, at a reduced rate (50% off).

2

We get to know your situation

I listen to your story, including the immigration part if it applies — Express Entry, a study permit, work, or residency — without you needing to translate the cultural context first. We'll sort out payment from Canada and, if you need it, I'll explain how to request your receipt.

3

We shape the process together

You decide with real information, not blindly: session by session, or with the 5-session package. If it's not the right moment, I'll still point you toward what you need.

Winter in Canada can feel endless, but you don't have to get through it in silence — or only in the language everyone around you speaks.

Frequently asked questions

What Latinos in Canada ask before booking

Do I need private insurance or provincial coverage (OHIP, RAMQ, MSP) to start therapy with you?

No. This works as a private consultation, with direct payment per session. Provincial health coverage in Canada doesn't include private psychological therapy from Colombia, but if you have private insurance or an employee assistance program (EAP) that covers mental health, I give you a detailed receipt for each session so you can submit it yourself to your insurer or employer.

Is it legal for you to see me from Colombia while I live in Canada?

Ricardo is licensed as a psychologist in Colombia (Professional License 106127) and works with international clients in private practice. He does not prescribe medication. Rules on cross-border online therapy vary by country and by state, so it's worth checking what applies where you live — and this never replaces local emergency care. If your process needs a psychiatric evaluation or in-person care, he will tell you and help you look for it where you are. If your process were ever to need a psychiatric evaluation or something that requires a provincial license, I'll help connect you with a locally licensed professional.

I live in Quebec — can we still work in English?

Yes. I know that in Quebec, mental health services are mostly offered in French, and looking for support in a third language when your story lives in Spanish and English adds one more barrier. Wherever you are in the province — Montreal, Quebec City, or anywhere else — we work fully in English, and you won't need to translate your background first.

What times can I book if I live in Toronto, Montreal, or Vancouver?

Toronto and Montreal share almost the same time as Colombia (about an hour's difference during daylight saving), so booking is usually easy. If you're in Vancouver or on the Pacific coast, we work in afternoon blocks in Colombia, which line up with your morning or midday. When you message me, I'll confirm the closest available time to your schedule.

How do I pay for the session from Canada?

We accept international card payment through a secure payment link. Message me on WhatsApp and we'll sort out the method that's easiest for you before your first session.

How long does the therapy process take?

There's no fixed number of sessions. The assessment session exists exactly for that: to understand your situation and honestly suggest a pace that fits you. You can go session by session, or take the 5-session package if you'd rather have continuity.
