Systemic Approach

When you have to rebuild everything

Starting over doesn't mean erasing what came before. You move through it by building on what's left.

Something came apart — a job, a relationship, a life plan — and now everything you took for granted has to be rebuilt: your sense of who you are, your finances, your routine, your day-to-day. For a lot of people who started over in a new country, that rebuilding is literal: a new address with none of your old friends in it, a résumé that doesn't quite translate the way you hoped, a language you now think in at work but still count money and dream in the other one. It can feel impossible, even while part of you is already, without noticing, starting to do it.

People around you may rush you to «look on the bright side», or assume you should already be rebuilt. But starting over isn't an event, it's a process: it needs room to grieve what's gone, and at the same time, room to take concrete steps toward what's next.

Who's with you

I'm Ricardo, and you won't be alone in this

I'm a clinical psychologist with more than 15 years of experience, trained in systemic family therapy. I'm Colombian, based in Barranquilla, and I see clients online, many of them in English — people who think in Spanish first and are now rebuilding a life in a country where nobody around them shared the one they had before. You don't have to explain that part to me first.

Rebuilding goes better with someone next to you. If this feels like the moment, let's take the first step together — at your pace, no pressure.

Rules on cross-border online therapy vary by country and by state, so it's worth checking what applies where you live — and this never replaces local emergency care.

My approach

This is how I work with starting over in therapy

I work from a systemic-relational approach: I don't look at rebuilding as a problem to solve quickly, but within your story, your identity, and what you lost — including, often, the people and places that used to hold that identity up.

🪐

What actually came apart

We look together at what you lost — not just the obvious part, but the identity and plans that were resting on it, including, for many, a home country, a language you used to think entirely in, or a version of yourself that made sense there. So we rebuild on a clear foundation.

🧩

One step at a time, not all at once

You don't have to solve your whole new life in a week. We work with concrete priorities: what depends on you today — paperwork, a routine, one relationship, one decision — and what can wait.

🌱

An identity that wasn't only about what came before

I help you find who you are beyond what ended, without denying the grief of what it was — including the parts of yourself that don't fit neatly into either language.

How we start

A clear first step, no pressure

1

You book your assessment session

Message me on WhatsApp or leave your details in the form. We'll set up a first 60-minute video-call session, at a reduced rate (50% off).

2

We get to know your situation

In that first session I listen to what came apart and how rebuilding has been so far. No rushed diagnoses, no jargon — just understanding, together, what you need.

3

We shape the process together

You decide with real information, not blindly. If it feels right for you, we agree on a process built around you. If not, I'll still point you toward what you need.

It's not about going back to who you were before. It's about discovering who you can be now, with what you learned.

Frequently asked questions

Is this only for after a breakup?

No. It applies to any major life transition: a move, a job loss, a grief, or a big change in identity or life plans.

How long does 'starting over' take?

There's no fixed timeline. It depends on what came apart and how many areas of your life need rebuilding. We define it together based on your situation.

What if I don't even know where to start?

That's exactly where the first session begins: sorting out with you what comes first, without you needing to arrive with everything figured out.

Is this the same as grief therapy?

It can overlap, especially if there's a loss involved, but here the focus is on rebuilding forward, not only on processing what's gone.

How much does the first session cost?

US$25 (50% off the regular US$49.99 rate), 60 minutes by video call.
