When the night doesn't rest either

Insomnia doesn't get fixed with more willpower. It gets worked through by understanding what's keeping it alive.

You lie down exhausted and your mind won't stop. Maybe it's the shift that just ended, or the one that starts at 5am. Maybe it's your phone lighting up at a strange hour because your family back home is having breakfast while you're trying to fall asleep. Maybe it's the worry about papers, or about money, that waits quietly all day and shows up exactly when you turn off the light. Or it's a shared room, and you're doing the math on how not to wake up whoever's sleeping next to you. The next day you drag your body through it — tired, but wired, like something in you can't stand down even at night.

It's not that you don't know «how to sleep». Insomnia that sticks around is almost always kept alive by habits and thoughts that, without you noticing, reinforce the problem. Therapy doesn't ask you to try harder. It helps you see exactly what that is, and take it apart.

Ricardo De Castro King — Clinical Psychologist

Who's with you in this

I'm Ricardo, and you won't be doing this alone

I'm a clinical psychologist with more than 15 years of experience, trained in systemic family therapy. But before the credentials, what I offer is presence: someone who listens without rushing you, and holds with you what feels hard to carry alone right now.

I grew up thinking in Spanish, and I still do — even when we work together in English. That's not a small detail. It means you don't have to translate your life before I understand it: the shift work, the family back home, the weight of building something in a second language. We can go straight to what's actually keeping you up at night.

Insomnia is easier to work through with company. If you feel like this is the moment, let's take the first step together — at your pace, no obligation.

My approach

How I work with insomnia in therapy

I work from an evidence-informed approach — drawing on principles used in cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) — adapted to your actual life, not a generic protocol.

🌜

What's keeping your insomnia going right now

We look together at the specific habits, schedule, and thoughts feeding your insomnia — not the generic list from an article, yours: the shift that changes every week, the phone lighting up with the family group chat at 3am your time, checking your bank balance right before you try to sleep.

🧠

The fear of not sleeping is part of the work too

Often the fear of another bad night keeps you awake more than the original problem — especially when you know you have to be sharp for a shift, a second job, or a full day lived in your second language. We work on that anticipatory anxiety directly.

Getting your sleep back without depending on pills

The goal is for your body to trust its own rhythm again — alongside any medication a doctor has already prescribed you, if that's part of your case.

How we start

A clear first step, no pressure

1

You book your assessment session

Message me on WhatsApp or leave your info in the form. We schedule a first 60-minute video session, in English, at a reduced rate (50% off), at a time that fits your week.

2

We get to know your situation

In that first session I listen to what your nights look like, what you've already tried, and how long it's been. No rushed diagnosis — just understanding, together, what's holding it in place.

3

We define the process together

You decide with real information, not blind. If it feels right, we agree on a process built around your actual schedule. If not, I'll still point you toward what you need.

It's not about forcing your body to sleep. It's about clearing away the obstacles you put there yourself, without meaning to.

Before you book

Frequently asked questions

How long do I need to have been sleeping badly before looking into therapy?

If it's already been several weeks affecting your day — your focus, your mood, your energy — it's worth starting. You don't have to wait until it becomes chronic.

Does therapy replace sleep medication?

That decision belongs to your doctor, not your therapist. If you're already taking something, we work alongside that; therapy addresses what's underneath the insomnia, beyond the symptom.

What is CBT-I?

Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia is a structured way of working on the habits, schedule, and thoughts that keep insomnia going, without medication. In session I draw on those principles and adapt them to your actual life, not a generic protocol.

Do I need a sleep study before starting therapy?

Not always. In the first session we look at whether your case also calls for a referral to a sleep medicine physician.

How much does the first session cost?

US$25 (50% off the regular US$49.99), 60 minutes by video call.
