Letting Go · Online, in English
You've told yourself a hundred times that this isn't good for you. You can list every reason. And still, something in you won't let go. That's not a failure of willpower — it's usually a sign that what you're holding on to has come to stand for something else, something you still need. A space to name that, in English, without translating yourself first.
When holding on doesn't add up
Maybe you've analyzed it a thousand times, and the conclusion is always the same: this isn't good for you. But when someone asks what you actually feel about it, the answer never quite arrives clean. That gap — between what you can explain and what you can't put down — is usually the first clue that this isn't really about the person, the place, or the thing itself. It's about what that person, place, or thing has come to represent: a sense of home, of belonging, of a life you wanted and haven't fully replaced yet.
For people who've left one country to build a life in another, this can show up doubled. The person you can't quite let go of becomes a stand-in for the life you left behind — the language you dream in, the family dinner table, the version of yourself before the move. Letting go of them can feel like giving up the last bridge back to that world, even when staying doesn't actually get you there either.
Who's with you
I'm a clinical psychologist with more than 15 years accompanying people who can't seem to let go of something they know isn't good for them, trained in systemic family therapy. That training means I don't stop at the reasons you've already listed a hundred times — I help you find what this is really standing in for, and where that need came from. I'm Colombian, based in Barranquilla, and I see clients online. Many of the people I work with in English think in Spanish first — they migrated, or grew up between two countries, or built a life far from where their sense of home used to live. You don't have to explain that part to me first.
This kind of pull is easier to untangle with someone beside you than alone with the same argument on repeat in your head. If this feels like the moment, let's take the first step together — at your pace, no pressure.

Systemic-Relational Approach
Focused on relational patterns
Ricardo is licensed as a psychologist in Colombia (Professional License 106127) and works with international clients in private practice. He does not prescribe medication. Rules on cross-border online therapy vary by country and by state, so it's worth checking what applies where you live — and this never replaces local emergency care.

I work from a systemic-relational approach: instead of asking only what you feel, we ask what this person, place, or situation has come to represent for you — because that's usually where the pull is actually coming from.
Instead of circling "what do I feel about this," we work with a different question: what does this stand for, for me? Naming it — a refuge, a sense of belonging, a version of a life you wanted — usually says more than the feeling on its own ever could.
Somewhere along the way, this person or situation became the representative of something you needed. As long as it feels like it's about them, it's hard to see what's underneath. We work on telling the two apart.
Once you can name what you've been holding on to for, the next question opens up: is there another way to get that — the sense of home, of belonging, of being enough — without depending on what isn't good for you?
How we start
Message me on WhatsApp or leave your details in the form. We'll set up a first 60-minute video-call session, at a reduced rate (50% off).
In that first session I listen to your story — who or what this is about, how long it's been there, and what it seems to be standing in for. No rushed diagnoses, no jargon — just understanding, together, what you need.
You decide with real information, not blindly. If it feels right for you, we agree on a process built around you. If not, I'll still point you toward what you need.
The question isn't what you feel toward them. The question is: what do they symbolize? It was never really about who they are — it's about what they represent.

If what you can't let go of is a specific relationship pattern rather than the pull of a symbol, one of these may fit closer: fear of abandonment looks at reassurance-seeking rooted in an early sense of home; on-off relationships looks at the cycle of leaving and going back under stress.
